This case concerns the criminal investigation into the attempted robbery of the First New England Federal Credit Union (aka FINEX), at 62 Hyde Avenue in Vernon on September 8, 2016 at about 0915 hours. A lone white male suspect, wearing a white blue and white plaid long sleeve shirt, a greenish colored baseball cap, eyeglasses, and blue jeans walked into the bank and approached the only employee working behind the desk. He handed her a note, she took the note and read it, then advised the suspect that she didn't have access to any money due to the bank being fully automated (no human tellers). The suspect took the note back and walked back out the entry/exit doors and walked out of the bank. No weapons were implied or shown and no force was used by the suspect against anyone. At the time of the robbery, there was only the one employee inside the bank. An immediate and significant police response to the scene was unsuccessful in locating, identifying and apprehending the suspect. Written statements were secured from known, identified witnesses. The bank had both interior and exterior surveillance cameras, which recorded the crime inside the bank, as well as the suspects approach and departure from the bank. This surveillance footage was seized as evidence. There were no other identified external video surveillance cameras in the area. It is unknown if the suspect acted alone or had an accomplice. There were no injuries in the incident.
