Today, June 17, 2016, at around 11:20am the Berkshire Bank located at 435 Hartford Turnpike was robbed. The suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding cash. Based on the robber’s mannerism and posture, the teller believed the man to be armed with some type of weapon and was possibly hiding this weapon underneath his shirt. No weapon was actually seen or displayed. The robber fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a non-specific silver car. The bank robbers description is as follows: an adult white male, approximately 50 years old, stocky build, 5’8”-5’9”, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, glasses, and what appears to be a brown “driver’s cap”. Vernon Patrol Officers responded within two minutes of the call having been received by the Vernon Police Communications Center. An initial search of the surrounding area for the suspect and suspect vehicle was unsuccessful. Members of the Vernon Police Department are actively pursuing investigative leads but are asking for the public’s assistance and support in identifying the pictured suspect. Members of the public are asked not to confront the suspect but to call their local police department, or the Vernon Police Department if they see or know who this person is. A $500.00 reward is being offered by the Connecticut Bankers Reward Association for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in this robbery.
