Friday morning at approx. 0058 hrs. the Ion Bank branch located at 727 Rubber Ave. Naugatuck was a victim of a burglary. An unknown subject cut a hole in the roof and gained access to the building, setting off the alarm. Naugatuck PD arrived on the scene and the burglar was still in the building and fled, numerous articles of clothing were recovered at the scene as well as the gloves. Subject had a cloth over his face with eye holes cut out (recovered) as well as gloves (recovered). The suspect also carried a backpack. At first it was thought he was going after the ATM vault but Naugatuck town has had several burglaries of businesses that deal in large quantities of cigarettes. This branch is located in a shopping strip mall with a “smoke shop” next door. Access to the building was made by cutting a hole in the roof and descending down into the building setting off the silent alarm.
